(Nashua, NH) – Jarvis Green was a member of the New England Patriots team that took an unbeaten record into Super Bowl XLII, only to have the New York Giants snatch the perfect season away in the final seconds. After losing the Super Bowl, Jarvis was heartbroken but he saw others, notably the Patriots fans, to be even more devastated with the Super Bowl loss than he was.
When he got back to the team hotel, there were a lot of fans having a party. He went to his room to drop off his bag and decided to go down to the party to honor the fans. He was amazed that they looked even sadder then he was. So he decided the best thing to do was to support the Patriots fans 100%. He hugged them, listened to them and had lots of pictures taken with them. This made him feel great and it was very healing.
Jarvis, who played in the NFL from 2002 thru 2010, was chosen to be a member of the Insightful Player team because of how he faced adversity in his life. An Insightful Player® is a person of integrity, such as a current or former NFL player, who shares their personal message of hope for the sole purpose of lifting the spirits of all, especially children. Thirty two player stories are featured in Carew’s book: INSIGHTFUL PLAYER: Football Pros Lead A Bold Movement of Hope published by Morgan James.
As a boy Jarvis was often in fights but a threat to place him in a juvenile home scared him enough to swear off fighting. The ability to overcome adversity and walk away from trouble, helped him eventually star at LSU and then play nine seasons in the NFL, including eight with the Patriots.
Jarvis knows the pain of losing the biggest game of all. His advice to the members of the Denver Broncos is to do something for the fans.
He also wants the Broncos players to adhere to the following advice:
“Don’t beat yourself up. You had a tremendous season. Learn from it and stay focused. Be thankful you made it to the big game. Stay on top of your game, pay attention to detail and learn from your mistakes. You have to get back up and learn from it. You can’t be down on yourself. You can become a better person and it will carry over to the rest of your life. Learn from defeat. Keep a positive perspective regardless of your circumstances. You must have a positive attitude. Let this expand your desire for growth even if it is already strong. You will grow all your life. If you stay negative, you lose the battle. Move forward and hold your head up high. You are a great team. Do it again!”
Named as the 2013 Seattle Seahawks “Man of the Year,” Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin Jr. now has a Super Bowl championship to go with it. Like Jarvis Green, Baldwin is also a member of the Insightful Player team. He was chosen to become an Insightful Player because of his ability to overcome adversity, learning early to embrace diversity and spirituality.
Green has specific advice for his fellow Insightful Player to relay to his Seahawks teammates: “Count your blessings. Really appreciate this moment and time and stay humble. Don’t do anything less then what you did to get here in every area of your life. You are helping underdogs in life because you were the underdog since you didn’t have the experience. Take inspiration from how you believed so much in each other as one unit. Believe in yourself and believe in your teammates. Believing in your teammates will help them believe more in themselves. Tell your teammates I believe in you. Include the new players and the rookies that join the team and do this with every team you play on. Teams win championships in the locker room, on the practice field, in training camp and during the off season. Congratulations!”
